Tasty Brunch at Sweet Life Crepes and Waffles

It was a crisp Tuesday morning, and a couple of my friends and I wanted to have brunch. We initially planned to go to A Ladybug Cafe & Bakery; however, it was closed on that day. All ready for brunch, we decided to visit Sweet Life Crepes and Waffles since it was the closest cafe (plus they were craving crepes).

We didn’t know what to expect entering the cafe. But we did know that we were hungry and was open to anything. Sweet Life was actually a lovely surprise! It was clean, modern, bright and quiet! The time 9:30AM and we were the first ones there, so we had our pick of a table.

The cafe was simple and quite comfortable, especially on a day like today. We wanted to warm up with some coffee, have brunch and just catch up, and this cafe was perfect for that purpose!

After we sat down, our very friendly server (and chef) gave us our menu and we immediately ordered our lattes, mocha and hot chocolate to warm up from the very brisk morning. Of course, I ordered the soy latte.

We all ordered crepes, and unfortunately they didn’t have vegan crepes. Thus, I had to settle with their vegetarian crepe, the ‘Greece Lightning’ with tomatoes, eggs, spinach, goat’s cheese & hollandaise, which was a very delicious combination! My friends ordered the Grab-a-lox (lox) crepe and Amato (Italian) crepe, which they also praised!

While not the cheapest, the food is worth its price and reasonable for the quality. These crepes and coffee was top-notch!

Sweet Life is a great alternative to the busier breakfast/brunch locations in Calgary, such as Monki, OEB and Blue Star Diner. It also doesn’t hurt that the food is delicious!

If you love European flavours and/or an excellent crepe and waffles, Sweet Life Crepes and Waffles (possibly) serves one of the best in Calgary!

COST: Moderate. The prices at Sweet Life is very reasonable but certainly not the cheapest eatery. For a crepe, expect to pay around $12 – $14, and the drinks are about ~$5 for a cup.

TASTE: Very good. My vegetarian “Greece Lightning” crepe was very delicious, and definitely the best vegetarian crepes in the city! My soy latte was very tasty as well; the coffee was still prominent and the latte’s texture was just right.

ACCESSIBILITY: Difficult. While some buses service the area, Sweet Life is best accessed by driving since it’s along Crowchild Trail. It is located in a plaza, so there are a lot of parking spaces available.

ATMOSPHERE: Nice. The cafe is minimally decorated. It’s simple but inviting as a breakfast/brunch spot. It seems like the kind of place that is very popular with regular locals. Tables & seats are plenty, and it’s a nice place to catch up with friends (like I did)!

SERVICE: 9/10. The lady serving us was coincidentally also the chef! She was very friendly, welcoming, and a bit of a jokester. Definitely worth the 15% tip! 😀

  1. […] For a cafe of this size, the selection of their all-day breakfast and lunch is amazing! You can take your pick of European dishes from French crepes to Italian pasta to Belgian waffles. However, I will say that the prices are somewhat elevated compared to Sweet Life Crepes and Waffles. […]
