Good Italian pizza is hard to come by, especially when you’re not in Italy. So, it’s quite surprising that Una Pizza Calgary serves one of the best pizzas in Calgary!
We came to Una Pizza + Wine after church, so we were hungry, hungry, hungry! Fortunately, when we arrived, there was a table ready for 3, as if they were anticipating us. So…no waiting! We immediately ordered right away (we were so hungry), but did not anticipate that it would take 30 minutes for the food to get to the table! If you come here on a busy dinner and lunch service, I recommend ordering some appetizers (or drinks) to ease the hunger pangs.
I ordered the artichoke heart vegetarian pizza, and my friends ordered the sausage pizza. My pizza was superb! It was simple, but the ingredients worked together! The squeeze of lemon added an acidic punch, adding to the flavour of the pizza. This was definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve eaten, or maybe I was just so hungry! My friends equally liked their pizza as much as (if not more than) I did!
Pizza has become somewhat bastardized, especially with the number of fast food pizza joints popping up everywhere. Una Pizza has some great pizza and atmosphere. If you think Una Pizza is overrated, it’s not! Definitely come and try it, and you will agree!
Recommended? Yes, yes, yes!
COST: Pricey. Una Pizza + Wine is pretty pricey, especially if you want appetizer, main, drinks and dessert for one meal. However, I think the portions were adequate, and quality was definitely worth the price you pay! For a pizza, expect to pay around $20. Drinks are $7-10, depending on what you get.
TASTE: Excellent. Una’s reputation definitely precedes it. My artichoke heart pizza was one of the best (if not the best) pizzas that I’ve tried! The crust was thin but not too crispy, and the toppings were exquisite! My friends also really liked their sausage pizza, and it’s their favourite!
ACCESSIBILITY: Easy. Una Pizza is located on 17th Avenue, so it’s very convenient to get here. Many buses have access to 17th Avenue, and you could also walk from Downtown. Parking is available, but limited and could be expensive.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. Una Pizza is very busy, especially for dinner and lunch. For good food, it is a perfect place for a date. The lighting was dimmed, which makes it a nice place to have an intimate date. The restaurant is modern but quite small. While it’s fancy, it’s not really a fine dining restaurant. So…you don’t have to feel awkward if you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
SERVICE: 7/10. Because Una is so busy, our food took 30 minutes to get to us (believe me, we timed it)! Granted, this was on a Sunday evening, so there were many people there too. Our server was nice, but she didn’t really make conversation; I understand though that it was a busy full-house.
