Besides taking a break from the monotony of daily unemployed life, I wanted to go to Banff to go cafe-hopping. In this effort, I stumbled upon Evelyn’s Coffee Bar in downtown Banff.
After walking around in downtown Banff and taking photos, I decided that I couldn’t stand the chill any longer (it was a chilly and breezy day), and so I made my way to Evelyn’s Coffee Bar/World along Banff Avenue. From the outside, it seemed like a local cafe. I didn’t really care where I was, so long as I was warm.
Inside the cafe, it was warm & cozy, and was immediately enticed by the 80s-90s pop and soft rock music they played in the background. If there is one genre and time period of music I really loved, it would be 80s-90s pop and soft rock (like Whitney Houston, TLC, Bryan Adams, Bee Gees, etc.)!
I took a table and ordered myself a soy latte and a “health” sandwich (for dinner) for about $15 together. The soy latte was delicious as was the sandwich, but I thought it was overpriced. There was an outlet right by my table, so I thought that now was the perfect time to do some blog work.
I sat at Evelyn’s for a good three hours and I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Well, except the fact that a lot of people walked in and out of the door, so cold wind bothered me frequently. One irk I had was that there was no washroom inside the cafe itself. You have to leave the cafe to go to the washroom, and I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of leaving all my belongings alone while I went to the washroom.
On the upside, Evelyn’s roasts their own coffee beans! No wonder their coffee tastes so good! Also, if the idea of sitting down idly doesn’t sit well with you and/or your friends, they also have chess boards and board games to get rid of your boredom!
Evelyn’s Coffee Bar is a perfect place to wind down and relax. The music is soothing and nostalgic, there are a lot of outlets to do work, and board games are plenty for you and your friends/family.
Recommended? Yes!
COST: Moderate. As with other cafes, the drink prices are pretty similar, about $5 for a large espresso-based drink. The sandwiches, however, I thought were a bit overpriced at about $9.
TASTE: Very good. Amongst the cafes I’ve visited in Banff, I would have to give Evelyn’s the award for best coffee, or at least, my favourite coffee. It’s very good & robust, but not too bitter or sour.
ACCESSIBILITY: Easy (in Banff). Evelyn’s is right in the middle of downtown Banff, along Banff Avenue (main road in Banff), so it’s highly accessible.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. I really like the atmosphere at Evelyn’s. You can people-watch by the window, do some computer work on a table, or just chill and play some board games. It’s cozy and welcoming, which is perfect when it’s cold outside like today. I also love that they play 80s-90s pop songs (throwback)!
SERVICE: 8/10. The baristas are extremely friendly, and will answer any questions you have. Many are on a working holiday, so you get to talk to people from all over the world!
