Village Ice Cream is definitely the best ice cream in Calgary! No argument there, really.
If you can find better ice cream in Calgary, please let me know. Otherwise, Village Ice Cream is the best! Their ice cream is hand-made & artisan, and uses local & natural ingredients to ensure maximum deliciousness!
Often times, Village is busy. During summers, you’ll definitely see a line in the evening, and it may even happen during winter but fret not: patience will be rewarded. There are usually 10 available flavours, with 2 – 3 seasonal flavours joining the originals.
Price-wise, Village is pricey but worth every dang penny. For a single scoop of ice cream, it is $5 BUT it is highly recommended to get that with their freshly-made waffle cones! Other than the ice cream cone, they also offer sundaes and sandwiches. If you want, you can also take home a pint of ice cream.
Village Ice Cream is also vegan-friendly! In this particular visit, I ordered the Coco-Cocoa Cluster Coconut Milk ice cream (single scoop with waffle cone) which is coconut milk-based with clusters of chocolate! YUMMMMMMMM!
The shop itself is quite small, but you don’t need a big shop when the ice cream is the main event. There are a few benches inside (for 2 – 4 people each), and a small patio outside during the summer. It’s also clean and well-maintained.
If you have never tried Village Ice Cream before, go now and enjoy its delicious artisan & local confectionary goodness!
Recommended? Yes, yes, yes!!!
COST: Pricey. It’s not expensive, per se, but it is pretty pricey for ice cream since ice cream can be $2 – $5 . However, for the quality of the ice cream, the price is definitely worth it!
TASTE: Excellent. My Coco-Cocoa Clusters Coconut Milk ice cream was so delicious! It’s vegan, sweet (but not too sweet) and highly addictive. And their fresh waffle cones are also so aromatic and tasty!
ACCESSIBILITY: Easy. This particular location of Village is located at East Village along 10th Avenue, which is about ~10 minute walk from City Hall station. Parking is also available nearby.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. The shop is small and usually busy (especially during summers and evenings), so it may feel cramped at times. However, the shop is nicely decorated with a few seating options, if you’re lucky enough.
SERVICE: 8/10. The servers are quite friendly and efficient, and will even let you sample some ice cream! 🙂
