Phil and Sebastian Stephen Ave is a new cafe in downtown, and it’s soooo very pretty. It’s new, clean and a great place to hang out!
I just happened to bump into this location as I was strolling along Stephen Ave while waiting for a friend. At the time, I didn’t even realize that Phil & Seb opened a new location! But the cafe looked beautiful and I needed a place to hang out in for a bit.
The cafe was new and bright! I love the natural light from the big windows! I love the details in cafe: the greenery made it much more welcoming and bright, and the tiled floor was gorgeous!
There are a lot of seating options too, so it’s a great place to hang out for coffee meetings, or meet with friends, or just hang out solo with a book and/or laptop.
I am a coffee aficionado, and I thoroughly enjoy the taste of different kinds of coffee. With that said, I usually order an americano to really taste the flavour. It was a hot day that day, so I opted for the iced americano, but it was still good!
But Phil and Seb isn’t just a coffee shop; they also have pastries, meals, wine and beer!
If you find yourself in downtown during the day and looking for a place to hang out, look no further than Phil and Sebastian Stephen Ave! Great drinks and ambience awaits.

COST: Moderate. Like with most hipster cafes, prices at Phil & Seb are pretty moderate. Expect to pay ~$5 for espresso-based drinks, and ~$5 – $8 for sandwiches.
TASTE: Good. Coffee is always good at Phil & Seb, and this location was no different. They also have pastries, teas, wine & beer if that’s your jam.
ACCESSIBILITY: Easy. The cafe is located along Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary, so it’s very accessible by public transit. It’s ~3 minutes by foot from Centre Street station. Taxis & Ubers are plenty as well.
ATMOSPHERE: Very nice. Phil & Seb is very neat & clean! There are plenty of seats & tables in the cafe, and it wasn’t too busy (yet). They have a great eye for detail from the tiled floor to the artwork to the lively plants. A great place to have coffee, sit down to do some work, or meet up with some friends for covfefe.
SERVICE: 8/10. The baristas were very friendly and courteous. My order came promptly. 🙂
