Retro Cafe at Vintage Caffeine Co in Kensington

After eating brunch at the wildly popular Dairy Lane Cafe, we decided to have coffee at a newly-opened cafe that was so raved about called Vintage Caffeine Co.

Walking into Vintage Caffeine Co., it reminded me a bit of Philosafy Coffee on 17th Ave, perhaps because both are new hipster cafes with wooden accents and furniture. I love the white walls at Vintage, because it makes the cafe much brighter (when paired with the big glass windows)!

The cafe is designed to be suited for hipsters and coffee-loving people! It’s minimalist but still aesthetically-pleasing. The tables are wooden (love), and the chairs look industrial and antique (love). There are only a few tables (about 3) for work or meetings…good thing we snatched one!

We ordered the soy latte and an iced latte. Both with good and still tasted the espresso (milk often ruins the coffee flavour). They have legit latte art, and it could be very intricate and beautiful.

Occasionally, they also host coffee-making and latte art sessions (classes), but beware, they are widely popular. They usually announce that in their social media accounts, so keep on the lookout if you want to learn latte/cappucino art.

Vintage Caffeine Co is a hipster cafe with a cool & relaxed vibe, making it perfect to solo time or meet ups. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the coffee is good. 😉

COST: Moderate. As with most cafes, prices are pretty similar. For a large espresso-based drink, expect to pay around ~$5. The pastries range from $2 – $5.

TASTE: Good. Vintage’s lattes are very tasty, and coffee was very pronounced in the drink. My soy latte wasn’t too watery and have a nice smooth texture that made it very easy to drink. It’s not my favourite, but it may be when I come to the cafe more often.

ACCESSIBILITY: Moderate. Vintage Caffeine Co is located in Hillhurst and near Kensington Road. Buses service the area, parking is readily available and free nearby (residential area), and it’s about ~20 minutes by foot to Lion’s Park station.

ATMOSPHERE: Very nice. I love love love the white walls, the big glass windows, the wooden tables and metallic industrial chairs! I love the hipster vibe of Vintage! It’s a nice place to catch up with friends, or have some solo time. There aren’t a lot of outlets, so be warned if you want to do work and  require plugging in your device.

SERVICE: 8/10. The baristas are super friendly, and will even pass on your drink to you if you’re staying! You can also grab your own water (which is a feature only the best cafes have)!
