Work-mode at Waves Coffee House Sunridge

If you want a place to meet up with friend for coffee in NE Calgary, Waves Coffee House Sunridge is the place for you!

Waves Coffee is a chain cafe that started in Vancouver, BC and made its way throughout Western Canada and Ontario. It doesn’t yet have the prestige of Starbucks, but it’s a welcomed alternative to it.

I live in NE Calgary. For those who don’t know, NE Calgary doesn’t have any decent independent cafes, but it is chalk-full of chain coffee shops and Timmies. Where I live, the closest decent cafe (that’s not a Starbucks) is Waves Coffee House Sunridge.

I visited the cafe at around 1PM and it was basically empty, so I had my choice of seating. There are a lot of tables at Waves and even a meeting room in the back if you so require.

Once I put down my things at my table, I ordered an almond milk latte, which was good but not awesome. Maybe I just have a bias towards independent cafes, but I always think independent coffee shops have better coffee.

With my coffee in hand, I proceeded to do some of the job applications I’ve been putting off, as well as my blog posts. 😛

I think the biggest draw to Waves Coffee is the atmosphere. The cafe was quiet & comfortable, and a perfect place to do some work/study. It’s also a great place to meet up friends or have that coffee date (in NE Calgary). There’s also Wifi available and lots of outlets if you need it!

Waves Coffee House Sunridge is a great alternative to Starbucks, and is a nice cafe to do your work or have a social meet. 🙂

Recommended? I prefer Waves to Starbucks.

COST: Moderate. As with other cafes, the prices at Waves are similar. For a large espresso-based drink, expect to pay ~$5. Boxed meals are $5 – $8.

TASTE: Good. Waves Coffee is a chain cafe, so the coffee are okay (like Starbucks). My latte was good, but coffee in independent shops are way better. Their “meals” are small and definitely not worth it.

ACCESSIBILITY: Moderate. The cafe is located near Sunridge station, so it’s accessible by transit. The adjacent parking lot is almost always full, but you can park at the Sunridge parking lot.

ATMOSPHERE: Nice. Waves is quiet & comfortable, with lots of seating and available Wifi. It’s a nice place to meet up with friends, or catch up on a book/work you’ve been putting off. It’s unfortunate that they close early though.

SERVICE: 8/10. The baristas are really friendly and welcoming!
