The Coffee Couch is one of a few local cafes in NE Calgary that offers a nice atmosphere and good coffee.
I first saw The Coffee Couch when I visited Village Pita Bakery since it was nearby. My friend and I decided to meet up, and decided to meet up here–two birds with one stone.
When I walked in, the cafe was quite empty, with only some people eating on their lunch hour. The lady in the front counter (at first) seemed unfriendly since she had such a stoic facade. But, she was very welcoming and warm to her customers.
The cafe offers not just the typical coffee and espresso-based drinks, but also cooked meals and baked goods. I ordered a soy latte, and my friend had the regular latte. My latte was pretty tasty, but not my favourite. It was also unfortunate that it didn’t have latte art, but that’s not a deal-breaker.
The Coffee Couch is quite comfortable. There are a lot of tables inside, as well as a patio for those summer days. There’s even a few sofas to recline on! It’s also quite empty and quiet, so it’s actually a nice place to do some solo work, or your own me-time.
There are also some outlets if you require to plug in your device; laptop, tablet or whatever that may be.
This would not be my first choice of cafe in Calgary, but if you want to go to a nearby local cafe in the NE Calgary, you will find that in The Coffee Couch.
Recommended? Yes!
COST: Moderate. The prices at The Coffee Couch are pretty similar to other cafes, but a bit cheaper when compared to the retro/hipster cafes. Expect to pay ~$5 for an espresso-based drink.
TASTE: Good. My soy latte is quite tasty, with much foam. Espresso was strong and flavourful. They also offer food for lunch, as well as some pastries for snacks, so next time, I shall try that.
ACCESSIBILITY: Moderate. The cafe is located in Marlborough, with Franklin station nearby (about ~10 minutes by foot). Driving is the best way to get here, however.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. The Coffee Couch is small but quite comfortable. It’s not very busy at any time, so it’s a nice place to relax or do some work. There are plenty of tables and even sofas for your enjoyment.
SERVICE: 8/10. The lady handling the front counter seems unfriendly and stern, but she is quite welcoming and nice. We shouldn’t judge a book from its cover.
