Market on Macleod is a year-round farmers’ market that have various stalls ranging from produce to ethnic food to artists. I was first introduced to this place by my Indonesian friend, and I fell in love with the place since then.

I don’t know about you, but I love exploring farmers’ markets because they have the most interesting food finds anywhere. Plus, you get a glimpse of “local” life. Not necessarily in Calgary, but in various cities around the world such as Paris, Tokyo and Rome.

Sabores is one of two Mexican stalls at Market on Macleod, and probably the lesser popular of the two. I’ve been meaning to try this stall out, but I always decided to eat elsewhere. Today, I finally decided to try Sabores.

At Sabores, they offer a variety of Mexican food including tamales, tacos, burritos and fajitas. They also offer a number of homemade dips, sauces, salsas and tortillas. And their servers are extremely welcoming and friendly!

Hungry, I ordered their tacos. Fortunately, Sabores is vegan-friendly (yay)! For the four tacos, I paid around $14; they also came with a variety of sauces and lime wedges.

However honestly, for vegan tacos, I think that it should be cheaper. When I make tacos at home, I can make 15 tacos for $14! I think any vegan food should be cheaper, unless they use specialty ingredients like vegan cheese and nuts.

The stall is located in the middle of the market, so you’ll have to eat at the “food court” area. Though, the tables are clean and well-kept. If you don’t mind eating at an open area, and want to try Mexican fare, and happen to be at Market on Macleod, please do try Sabores.

Recommended? Yes.

COST: Moderate. For the 4 vegetarian tacos, I paid ~$15 (with tax), which equates to $3.75 each. It’s certainly not the cheapest tacos, but affordable.

TASTE: Very good. The tacos were very tasty, and a nice introduction to Mexican food. Initially, I thought the tacos weren’t enough to make me full, but it surprisingly was! Their sauces were flavourful and each tasted distinctly.

ACCESSIBILITY: Difficult. Sabores is located at the Market on Macleod, which is along Macleod Trail, and is quite far from public transportation. Driving is your best and most efficient bet to get here.

ATMOSPHERE: Okay. Because it’s a food stall in a market, there isn’t much of an atmosphere here. It’s more of a casual eatery like a food court. That said, the tables are clean and well-maintained.

SERVICE: 9/10. The ladies working at Sabores were very friendly and welcoming. If you have questions about the food, they will help you go through the menu!
