Smashburger McKenzie Towne offers good, old-school diner food burgers despite it being a fast food joint.
My friend wanted to eat for dinner at a vegan-friendly restaurant near McKenzie Towne/New Brighton, and Smashburger was right there!
When you go in, you order & pay at the front counter before you get your food. But it may take a while for you to order because they have so much in the menu! There are a lot of customizations you can make as well so it may very well overwhelm you. Remember: get a burger and fries with a milkshake. That’s a classic.
I ordered the black bean burger with sweet potato Smashfries, and my friend ordered the Calgary Smashburger (bacon and caramelized onions) with regular Smashfries. We enjoyed our burgers, and we loved the Smashfries!
My burger had avocado, which I love! I think the one downside to my black bean burger is that they smashed it burger too flat. I rather like a more substantial burger (with more patty).
Smashburger McKenzie Towne is pretty big! There are plenty of tables and seats for those opting to stay. There’s also a take-out option if you’d rather eat outside or at home.
If you do stay to eat, the servers will bring your food out to your table quickly! Because it’s fast food, our food came within ~5 minutes of ordering. Yay!
If you want a good burger fast, Smashburger is a good alternative to fast food burger joints. While you are paying more for higher quality ingredients, you can definitely taste that in their burger!
Recommended? Yes.
COST: Moderate. Smashburger is quite affordable. A basic burger (no fries) can be between $5 – $9. Add-ons will cost more, but it won’t break the bank, relatively-speaking.
TASTE: Good. Despite it being burger fast food joint, the burgers and fries are pretty tasty! My black bean burger was good, but the patty was thin. My friend liked her Calgary Smashburger as well! The smashfries are a must when you’re here!
ACCESSIBILITY: Difficult. Smashburger McKenzie Towne is located in the south end of Calgary, and there aren’t train stations nearby. Driving is most recommended to get to this branch.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. The eatery is big with lots of tables and seating if you want to dine-in. It doesn’t have the retro diner vibe that the food reflects, but it’s clean, quiet and modern!
SERVICE: 8/10. The servers are friendly, and service is always quick! Our food came to our table in about ~5 minutes.
