It’s Spring in Calgary and It’s Making Me Busy

It’s been 2 weeks since my last post.

And I’m going to be honest, I simply haven’t had the chance to sit down and work on this blog.

On top of my full-time internship at City Hall, I’m also coming up with ideas for branding & marketing for a business proposition in the future, meeting up with other local foodies, business owners, Instagram people & friends, baking for requests & events, and (trying to) taking care of my physical, mental, emotional & spiritual health.

Bake sale on May 13th at The Livery Shop, and I made donuts, cupcakes and tarts for sale.

8th Annual Vegan Bake Sale at Community Natural Foods Chinook on April 29th, and I donated 18 Totoro donuts.

There’s a song called “Breathe” by Jonny Diaz that is really fitting right now. It’s essentially about stopping & breathing when you’re faced with the stress, busyness & craziness of life:

Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at My feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe.

I want to do so much and want to accomplish so much, yet I sometimes forget to just stop and breathe. In a society where “busyness” is equated to fulfillment & success, it’s sometimes hard to refocus on what truly matters in this life.

We can keep ourselves busy and accomplish many things, but for what purpose? I need to remind myself that my purpose is to live intently with Jesus as the centre. From my perspective, nothing in this world will ever completely make me happy, and nothing will ever completely satisfy me—only Jesus does and always will.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not bad to be busy. But what is your purpose for doing what you do? And is it worth it in the end?

Enjoying the Spring in Calgary

The past week, we have been having really gorgeous weather in Calgary, especially now that spring is in full bloom. It’s been busy, but I also took time to relax with some friends outdoors.

Eau Claire and Prince’s Island Park is gorgeous in spring, summer and fall! When the sun is out and the weather is nice in Calgary, you can bet that Calgarians are out and about. And weekends are especially busy in downtown and city parks.

A beautiful day in Eau Claire.

The previous weekend’s weather was beautiful, so a couple of friends and I decided to stroll in Eau Claire & Prince’s Island to take advantage of this weather. We walked from Eau Claire all the way to the Peace Bridge, and of course, I just had to take some photos of my beautiful friends on a day like today! 😀

Breathe

In the busyness of life, I need to remember to stop and breathe.

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

—2 Corinthians 4:18

I want to live with purpose—help others in whatever way I can. I can still live life and accomplish my earthly goals, but I should not make any one thing more important than Jesus. Remember everything in this life is temporary, because one unexpected day it will all be taken away. I need to remember that when the day comes, I can say that I am ready, no matter how much I’ve done or haven’t done.
