Via Cibo 14th Street serves delicious Italian street food-inspired dishes in the cozy comfort of a restaurant.
We went to Via Cibo on a Tuesday evening (around 6PM), and the restaurant wasn’t too busy or noisy. There are also many tables and seats, so you shouldn’t have to wait for a table.
When we arrived, the owner (Karan) welcomed us and explained the menu to us. He said that Via Cibo was inspired by Italian street food, and he talked about their prized menu item, the piadina, which is a hand held Italian flatbread (essentially an Italian pizza wrap). Intrigued, I decided to order it. 😉
For appetizer, we started with vegan bruschetta and regular bruschetta (with cheese). For the entrée, I had the portabello and goat cheese piadina (without the goat cheese), with a side of salad. My friend had the gorgonzola cream sauce gnocchi, with a bun on the side.
Everything we had was delicious! The piadina was a bit messy to eat, but very flavourful. I loved the juiciness of the grilled portabello! The bruschetta was perfectly crispy and light. My friend enjoyed her gnocchi, and you’ll love it if you love cheese.
A big thank you to Karan and Via Cibo for hosting us and treating us to some amazingly delicious Italian food! I definitely will be back when I’m around the area. 🙂
Recommended? Yes!
COST: Moderate. The prices at Via Cibo are affordable and aren’t too expensive. While Via Cibo is inspired by Italian street food, the prices don’t necessarily reflect that. For an entrée, expect to pay around $10 – $15.
TASTE: Good. I love that they can make vegan options! The piadina was delicious! It was a bit messy to eat, but the flavours were wonderful. My friend enjoyed her gnocchi as well (if you like cheese). The bruschetta was delicious; the balsamic glaze was bomb!
ACCESSIBILITY: Moderate. Via Cibo is located right on 14th Street SW, and very close to 17th Avenue SW. It’s ~12 minutes by foot from Sunalta station. Alternatively, there is parking in the back and curbside.
ATMOSPHERE: Nice. The restaurant is very clean, and there is a lot of seating. There weren’t too many people on that evening, so it didn’t feel crowded or too noisy.
SERVICE: 8/10. The owner, Karan, previously hosted me at his other restaurant, The Street Eatery, and we had the same courteous service. 🙂
